چکیده

In this paper we introduce a compression scheme suitable for large CAD (Computer Aided Design) models. We assume as input a large model in IGES and VRML formats that encode e ciently and transmit to a client for remote display and modeling. To this end we focus on two main issues: (a) space e cient encoding of IGES and VRML les, (b) fragmentation of the compressed model into small independent units that can be transmitted incrementally over unreliable data communication media. We extend previously published compression schemes to handle quadrilateral and general polygonal models still maintaining the layering structure used to organize the redundant information of the geometric model. In particular we implement polygon strips to handle general polyhedral meshes and we merge them together so that non-manifold geometry are also allowed. NURBS patches are encoded as quadrilaterals with properties attached. The compressed output is a bit-stream partitioned into variable length blocks which can be transmitted independently. With this structure the transmission can be performed on a unreliable network allowing minimal retransmission in case of lost or corrupted blocks. Implementation of VlSI Based Image Compression Approach on Reconfigurable Computing System - A Survey

Image data require huge amounts of disk space and large bandwidths for transmission. Hence, imagecompression is necessary to reduce the amount of data required to represent a digital image. Thereforean efficient technique for image compression is highly pushed to demand. Although, lots of compressiontechniques are available, but the technique which is faster, memory efficient and simple, surely...

High rate compression of CAD meshes based on subdivision inversion Compression de maillages CAO basée sur la subdivision inverse

In this paper we present a new framework, based on subdivision surface approximation, for efficient compression and coding of 3D models represented by polygonal meshes. Our algorithm fits the input 3D model with a piecewise smooth subdivision surface represented by a coarse control polyhedron, near optimal in terms of control points number and connectivity. Our algorithm, which remains independ...

Visual Pattern Image Coding by a Morphological Approach (RESEARCH NOTE)

This paper presents an improvement of the Visual Pattern image coding (VPIC) scheme presented by Chen and Bovik in [2] and [3]. The patterns in this improved scheme are defined by morphological operations and classified by absolute error minimization. The improved scheme identifies more uniform blocks and reduces the noise effect. Therefore, it improves the compression ratio and image quality i...

3D Mesh Coding Techniques Applied to CAD Data: A Comparative Evaluation

This paper presents a study of 3D mesh compression techniques within the specific framework of CAD applications. A state-of-the art of 3D mesh compression approaches is first presented and analyzed under the light of CAD data specificities. A CAD corpus, provided by the French car manufacturer RENAULT is then quantitatively analyzed in terms of geometricotopological properties. This analysis re...
